International Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women highlights the necessity of introducing particular gender approaches in the field of education. With this purpose, the group on education was formed within the coalition. The Woman and Education group works in two directions:

  • Introduces gender education to the school system of Georgia

  • Supports women in obtaining additional professional education

In 2003-2004 the group implemented project that foresees including of gender component into the education system reform. According to the researches, schoolbooks include many examples of gender stereotypes, and feminine gender is presented there more seldom than masculine. On the basis of the research, the group worked out recommendations for the Science and Education Ministry of Georgia.

In 2005 the group also worked at introducing the method of ‘non-stop education’ for women. the ‘non-stop education’ is the part of the university process abroad, as university professions do not always correspond to the demands of the labor market. Once every five years, new technical equipment appears, this is why education system needs to keep step with the progress. ‘Non-stop education’ gives professionals this opportunity.
